Personalized Indoor Air Quality Services
Our experts encourage homeowners to schedule IAQ testing at least every several years. We conduct testing using an AirAdvice IAQ monitor that electronically analyzes the air. It can detect high levels of moisture, particulates, chemicals, gases, and more. That analysis can take as little as 30 minutes. In some cases, it can take as long as three days, and we’ll return when the analysis is complete. Our team will also perform assessments of your home’s building envelope, fuel-burning equipment, ventilation, other indoor pollution sources, and so forth.
Homeowners can have us install their own IAQ monitor for ongoing peace of mind. There are standalone wall-mounted and freestanding IAQ monitors. An alternative is a smart thermostat with remote IAQ sensors and other advanced features.
For active air pollution removal, we’ll recommend some form of whole-home air purification. Many HVAC brands offer multistage in-duct air purifiers. These systems can cycle all the air in a home four or more times an hour. Often, they’ll have activated charcoal, which adsorbs gases and airborne chemicals. Many systems have a primary mechanical filter too, such as a high-efficiency particulate air (HEPA) filter. HEPA filters trap at least 99.97% of particulates down to 0.3 microns in size.
There are alternatives to traditional air purification, such as ozone-free ionizers. These systems electrically charge molecules and then disperse them throughout the home. The charged molecules bind with pollutants and neutralize them. One of the advantages of this approach is that the air purification continues beyond the ductwork.
High or low moisture levels can contribute to poor indoor air quality as well. The air in Colorado is dry during the winter, and many households make it worse by running a furnace. If that causes the relative humidity (RH) to drop below 30%, a whole-home humidifier is the solution. It will add moisture to the air to increase RH.
Good HVAC maintenance habits are important, too. Schedule seasonal heating tune-ups in the fall and seasonal cooling tune-ups in the spring. Clean HVAC equipment promotes good air quality. Also, be sure to use a premium high-MERV HVAC filter that fits your system. Check it at least once a month and replace it as needed.
