Wellington HVAC Zoning System Services
Our team starts this process by coming up with a zoning layout. We ask you about the habits of your home’s occupants, the layout of your home, square footage, and your existing HVAC system setup. We come up with comfort areas according to usage patterns and ductwork placement. The areas of your home that receive the most sunlight may require more or less HVAC support.
The number of zones that can be in place depends on the size of your current heating and cooling equipment and whether you plan on replacing it as part of this process. In most cases, three to six zones are common. We are also very knowledgeable about local building codes and permit requirements, which we adhere to for every project.
A Manual D load calculation is an important part of setting up duct design. This calculation helps us size your dampers and determine system capacity. We also use a Manual J calculation for cooling load. Using information like the height of your ceilings, square footage, insulation level, and window/door types, we can avoid oversizing or undersizing your zoning setup.
A zoning setup consists of several components. This includes a separate thermostat for each zone. A central hub is where all these thermostats relay information to. Electronic dampers are inside your ductwork to direct airflow. You will still utilize one main HVAC system for your heating and cooling functions. Other key parts include a thermostat cable, damper actuator wiring, and pressure taps.
Prior to installing your zoning system, we shut off power to your HVAC system. We will verify that there is a 120-volt power circuit to the transformer. We cut small openings into your ducts to allow for the installation of the dampers. Once in place, we completely seal these areas so there isn’t any air loss. This also keeps particulate matter, pests, and other contaminants out of your ducts.
When installing each thermostat, we strongly recommend that you consider smart thermostat units. This is an upgrade worth considering.
A smart thermostat provides you with many benefits.
- Remote adjustments
- Adaptive learning
- Data usage reports
- Maintenance alerts
- Rebates and incentives
Once we complete the installation, we restore power to your HVAC system and test your system. This includes redirecting airflow to each zone. We use the process of airflow balancing to protect your comfort and HVAC system.
